Goliath stood under the terebinth tree for the 40th day And he roared and the Israelites fled as they had done for 40 days For the last 10 days, boredom shaped in Goliath’s chest like a smooth river stone It was no longer satisfying to see a nation scurry from him But today it was not the boredom of late or the glory from before that rose inside Goliath It was subtly seen by his commanding Philistine but it was a fear that filled his mind like inkwash or water color And the fear built on itself as the sun turned through the day because Goliath could not name its source Something was different about this day Goliath grasped the terebinth tree as if it were an anchor and he a ship captained by a man who stood on deck staring at a blue ocean and a blue sky and knowing that Death himself was dressing in his darkest storm and would be upon them in hours This was the fear of the Lord and Goliath was blessed to know it in his last hours
