You want to feel chased after
pursued
but you don’t want to chase
because
you think those who run away
aren’t mature
and you are looking for maturity

Of course, you are no hypocrite
and so
you put down that piece of you
which burns nervous and hot
when someone reaches for you

You pretend it does not exist

It does, though, and in your
blindspot
it pulls strings
that have distasteful outcomes

Welcome it into the light
and love it like your own child
and work with it so that
you both
get what you’re after
