You step from a dark forest into a clearing roughly two and a half times the size of your living room It is a small meadow lit by the sun or by the moon and it is bright compared to where you have been and where you are going I have been waiting for you and I stand to your right There is a beast in the forest that has been hunting you a monster a demon a threat It steps from the forest into the clearing opposite you It is shrouded in power I hand you a sword, sheathed It is a unique sword that only you can wield What does it look like? How does it feel? Remember this The beast has been hunting you because you have something it wants Perhaps it is strapped to your back or you grip it tight with the hand which isn’t holding the sword you have taken Name the threat, make it known I say You do and in so doing you speak a spell that tears away the shroud of power with a gale force and you can see the thing before you Assess the threat and what it threatens I say What is it? What does it look like? How does it move? What does it represent? What is it threatening to take? Step in, step out, stand, or stand aside I say And here you must choose Do you step in, taking action against the monster unsheathing your blade striking first with advantage? What might that look like? Do you step out, leaving behind the thing it wants returning to your journey unscathed and with a lighter load? What might that mean? Do you stand, not in fear for to stand in fear is to lose more than any other choice, but in waiting for it to make the first move or for more data or so that you might retreat? What is it you are waiting for? Or have you learned the secret art of acceptance from mountain monks? If you have, I am your student Do you stand aside? Do you let someone else fight this battle for you? It may be that you have to. It may be that you can’t. I hope you have an army by your side but I also hope you don’t have to use them I hope this blade is enough in the end or that what the demon seeks is easily surrendered And then Even yourself I say And you do because you have to Maybe it is quick and maybe it takes time but you even eventually and then move on to the next thing and maybe you are stronger
